Da – De – Di – Do – Du

Almost one year has passed and it seems like only yesterday, time really flies and the next thing you know I’ll be celebrating my anniversary as a father as well as the first birthday of my son.

Becoming a father completely changed my life. I thought becoming a Dad was just plain and simple – be a provider and be a role model but I was completely wrong. The impact of Fatherhood hit me. You will know the feeling once it happens to you. The pressure is  inevitable especially knowing that there are two persons relying on me. I have to think them first, sacrifice, be patient and work hard. And in order for me to fulfill my job as a provider, I have to work doubly hard and part of it was the transition to a new company. So I transferred, new adjustments, new job, new workplace. I adjusted well with my present job, coped easily with the workload, colleagues and superiors.  The only downside was I didn’t have much time to spend with my son. I remember few months ago that Kat and I noticed that Kobe somehow does not “recognize” me and he would just ignore me whenever I call his name. I felt alarmed and thought that at an early stage of his development he can’t “recognize” me at all what more when he grows up. Changes were made and I see to it that every morning we have some quality time playing together and me taking care of him. I also made sure that weekends will be spent wisely as “Family Bonding Time”.

Overall, I think I made a decent showing to pass Fatherhood 101. Lessons learned – I just need to balance my time with regard to family and work.

Kat and I are fortunate enough that we have passed this gruelling test and Kobe has blossomed to be a cute, playful, cheerful, healthy baby boy.
